"Chugga-chugga... whooowhooo! "

Even the smallest little boy knows that sound! And if he doesn't, the classic sound of the train grabs his attention immediately when he hears it! Train birthday parties are one of the most popular party themes for boys!

If your little guy loves trains, you have to check out our cool train birthday party invitations and stationery. View our train designs here!

If you're planning a train themed birthday party, don't forget to check out party tips and ideas. Here are some of our favorite tips.
  • Centerpiece ideas
    • For table centerpieces, make train stations out of cardboard. Put little plastic people on it, as if they are waiting for the train. You can even put a train engine on each table that the kids can run up and down the tracks. Remove the trains before serving the food, or the kids are unlikely to eat.
    • Flip train conductor hats upside down and fill with colorful jelly beans or M & Ms for your guests to munch on!

Party Menu

  • If you are serving a full meal, have the kids decorate their own round pizzas to look like train wheels!
  • Make Pretzel Train Tracks!
    • Arrange pretzel sticks on wax or parchment paper to form sections of train track.
    • Cover with melted chocolate.
    • Sprinkle with colored sugar.
    • Let set or freeze until the party.
  • Make Train Sugar Cookies and allow your guests to decorate them.
  • Train Birthday Party Cake Ideas
    • Train Cupcakes- Line brightly colored cupcakes up like a train!
    • Rice Cereal Treat Train
      • Make enough rice cereal treats, then put them together to make train car forms.
      • Cover each one with tinted melted white chocolate. Allow to freeze.
      • When the chocolate has hardened, use icing and candies to decorate each train car.
      • Use licorice and icing to make car couplers to join the train together.

Party Activities

  • Make train tickets for each guest! Use brown card stock, with train stop information. As they complete each activity, punch holes in their tickets!
  • Have an adult dress up like a conductor or engineer! Have him give a talk about trains!
  • Do a "Train Walk!" Have your guests form a line, with their hands on the shoulders of the person in front of them. See how far they can go without falling or breaking the line. Play fun music for them to march along to!
  • Make visors into conductors hats! Purchase inexpensive visors, then paint with black stripes. Allow guests to decorate them!
  • Send home train whistles, train stickers, mini toy trains, etc for party favors!
